Barbados Signal Stations

Barbados signal station: Gun HillBarbados signal stations were setup across the island by the British as part of a communications and defense mechanism.

Located at strategic points, the Barbados signal stations sighted ships that were approaching the island and signaled to the other stations, thereby spreading the word of the approaching vessel (friendly or otherwise!). Likewise, the signal stations relayed warnings of slave rebellions.

Due to their elevated location these signal stations offer spectacular views of the island. Gun Hill Signal Station, located in the center of the island commands amazing views of the south and west coasts in particular, while Grenade Hall and Cotton Tower offer vistas on the east coast.
